great! more mellow than the jonny fiasco jam. a lot more room to move and people weren't as 'in yo face'. lots of ladies out which was nice to see for a valentine's day jam.
i got there for the last section of hodges' set - the final stretch for the man with the hometown advantage. 'deep inside' had the place going bonkers, but the best is moment when everyone realized that the trumpet wasn't coming from the speakers but an actual guy playing! the look on their faces was priceless. diz's set was quite nice - he doesn't play anything too pounding, i thought it was a great fit with the theme of the night. one of my fave tunes that he played was Still Jazz by JT Donaldson, but for tracks like that he'd mix out quick. it was kind of nice how he changed it up. i have one on my cell phone i'm going to need a track ID on soon. it was a bloody epic tune. near the end of his set he seemed a little bored or something, and the crowd needed a pickmeup too which they got from the Loopitys. the shift was actually quite noticable but not necessarily a bad thing. that's what's good about having a lot of DJs throughout the night is other people can come in with a fresh take on things. gord played another one of my favourite tracks by Swell Session and Mr. Scruff "No No". eventually just had to pack 'er in but i'm sure the party went on quite early into the morn. oh yeah and the highlight was i met a fellow and when i told him i'm mr. tunes he was able to place the nickname from downloading off me on soulseek many years ago which is just awesome. we got there around 12:30 and hodges was ripping it up! I was really impressed that the place was blowing up that early he really set the pace for the night. The live trumpet was awesome, it worked perfectly with the tunes. The place filled up in time for Diz, perfect number of people, the place was packed but dancing and moving were not an issue. Diz rocked the proper house and bumpy disco. Loopity Goofs followed up but destroying the place with filthy, techy, monster baselines. we left around 6:30 shortly after G Cue started and the place was still going off. I seriously cant remember the last time I heard a whole night of house at that caliber. 5 star house jam!!! thanks to everyone involved.

It was really good!! I was diggin the music a little too much possibly. I was dancing at the front the whole time, till about 5:30 or so when I decided it was time to sleep. Really good party all around, for whatever reason I found DIZ's set a tad dry, & didn't see much of hodges so I think loopity took it 4 me.

Well Last Sunday I woke up and wrote about 5 paragraphs on this epic evening and when I clicked submit for some reason my IE gave out and all those words were lost. I just couldn't go back to writing that piece again.
Given that night started with Hodges and Don Sizzle over at Sizzle central, I was quite warmed up and ready to continue one of the longest musical marathons in a long while. I was fortunate enough to hear some of the choons Hodges was going to lay upon you all and glad I did cuz a couple of times during his set I had to remind him to play a few tracks from the early evening; which he graciously thanked me for. Oye Como Va and Miles Madea's Remix of Dancin to The Beat. When I got to the location the snow was coming down and I was ready to head into the 'HOUSE' and that is exactly what it felt like, except the fireplace was replaced with heat lamps but the couch was a cozy addition. Miz Megs was warming the room up while people were doing the ol meet and greet. Lee Mac followed with a few choice tracks and Hodges just picked up where he left off a few hours ago. With little expectation for what would come I just watched DIZ just causually get all his shit set up just the way he wanted it, inlcuding his pack of Parliment's; then he just played the music he loved choosing a bevy of tracks that just spanned the genres but with that funky Chicago vibe. He was a cool kat back there; so I just planted my feet right next to him and just BOUNCED away; occasionally reaching over to offer him a light The room was really into it and t was great to view it from his perspective and seeing all the happy faces and dance moves from even the most unlikely to move their body. Wish I could have stayed to watch Gord run out of gas, that man can shake a can of paint while he is perfomring and his vocal tracks are some of the nastiest around. From the reviews above the Goofs and G Cue closed the party out in style. Great job Locols crew. It took me a week to regain my passion to write and I am glad I did. It was a lot of fun. I was wondering if DIZ's mix was available for download - I went to the site and it appears I can only play it. Maybe it's just me. It was mee just found the dl link Last edited by preacherman; 02-20-2010 at 06:45 AM. |

I'm gutted I missed this. Had some long scheduled family time to do.
From all accounts this was a stellar evening, as we have all come to expect from the Locols. SO there for the next one!!! excitedly dl'ing the Diz set now.... |

another bumping jam from the Locols. I didn't get to catch too much of Megs and Lee but Lee never disappoints so I'm they brought the fire. I thought Hodges played really well in setting it up for Diz, a good blend of bumpy and jackin' vibes to get the room warmed up. Diz was good. deeper vibes than what I had expected but a good set of music nonetheless.
I ran out of gas by the time the Goofs started and only caught the beginning of their set... but I did manage to train spot two tracks from Gord before I left.Another good buzz! Looking forward to the next one! |
