i try to avoid starting reviews about events at my workplace, but since no one else has i'll get the ball rolling. i felt that it was a great crowd - not necessarily in numbers but in vibe. this party was all about the main room. sadly the boys the in the second room didn't pull out a crowd, which sucks as they were providing an eclectic alternative to the house driven sound of the main room.

like others, I wish satoshi could have played longer. i'm not a fan of honey dijon and viewed her set as what could have been 2 extra hours for satoshi. still, i really dug the dark tech-house sound he brought. very similar to the sound tenaglia is a fan of lately.

Thanks for starting this thread as I really wanted to check out the Martinez Brothers as I missed them at Cobra. In addition, I was interested to see if a party of this size could spark larger house driven events. I thought it was a little too ambitious to have that many DJs in addition to the large space but I'll definitely tip my hat off to them if they pulled it off.

it was a good time I didn't stay very long but I really liked how everything was laid out. not that it was any different than normal but with it not being rammed you could get a really good look at it.

As for sound, it was nice to see they could turn it up because in past years with the island people fighting there were times that they clearly were turning it down. I guess the reno's did a good job keeping in the sound.

Dj wise I liked the music although I didn't catch HD or satoshi

One minor comment would be that they should have outside heaters on the patio....

if you want to know, it's a combination of factors. yes, renovations to the room involved sound proofing the walls. a sound engineer is also in place at all times to monitor things. the PA system has a wireless tablet that can adjust sound positioning. a popular phrase is "just because you have the power, it doesn't mean you have to use it". as a crowd gets smaller they can adjust the speakers to focus on a certain area instead of just letting everything run at max the whole time. "array" systems (speakers hanging from the ceiling with specific angles) can pinpoint every area of a room. if everyone is up by the dj booth, there is no need to project sound to the back. plus, the delay speakers are turned around for dance events providing more sound back in, also facing away from the island.

Interesting. High tech! I suppose it also doesn't hurt that it's winter, and many of the Island folks are at their winter homes or else snug inside with the window's sealed.

Have always enjoyed myself @ 11 Polson and this time was no exception...the right mix of music, people, time & space made for a fun night.

Mahoney & Butler had the spacey trippy house disco thing goin on in the back room, and the lead in to the Martinez Bro's in the Main Room was bang on and it had a nice, warm sound all around in there.

Thoroughly enjoyed Switch's set in the back room (he looked like he was havin' a blast), and to close out the night Satoshi dropped the dark and dirty prog, so good!

After much deep thought and full scientific analysis... It's a real treat when The Sound Academy hosts these awesome all access events; It's refreshing to be at a different venue and frankly, I've yet to have an average time there. Saturday night pretty much tops it all off. No real complaints from me.. the crowd was mixed, good vibes all around. Lots of friendly, free spirited, interesting characters. I'm pretty sure the real Lorraine was in attendance, and if not, then some distant relative of hers :wtf:. Stayed in the main room the entire night, with little breaks. The energy in that room was off the walls; it had a sense of Sonic feel.

Musically, my night couldn't have been better. Caught 20 mins of J-Buttz which enabled us to get slightly wet earlier on in the night. Seriously, latex protection is needed to resist the sleazy music The Martinez Brothers definately lived up to their hype; these kids really are talented. I loved every minute of their techy-but-not-boring set. They played a variety of styles, but I would agree that as a whole they played big room tunes!! Sometimes too big for the room.. but the crowd ate it up like it ain't goin' out of style anytime soon. Miss Mmm Hmm Honey Dijon continued where they left off with her bouncy hard house and Chicago booty beats. To say there was a lack of pancake smackin' would be a lie. I enjoyed her Solstice set from 2008 a bit more, but she played really well.

Now.. Satoshi Tomiie the godzilla genius.. I definitely feel like I share a musical connection with him, and besides, wasn't Godzilla a dinosaur? He's been in my top 5 for the longest time, but my interest in him slowly deteriorated, after not living up to the high standards that I had for him during his last few gigs. Somewhere a long the way, he changed his style, focusing more on cookie cutter tech tracks. I felt that his signature sound was missing sadly.. Needless to say, I had a really good feeling about his performance, and he surpassed those top level standards that I had for him by a long shot.

Back in 2006, I experienced the magic for the first time when he played a memorable set at Sonic. Then, it was a spiritual journey, traversing through the light and dark aspects of the afterlife. Fast-forward to 2010: Satoshi brings back his signature sound, not only better than before, but still able to encompass a lot of the newer techier sounds that he's gotten interested in. I could have sworn he cast a spell on the crowd; these mysterious voodoo magicks broadcast through the sense of sound, penetrating our souls and using our energy to amplify his music. He somehow managed to tell a story for the 2hr time slot that he played, with absolutely no filler; just a one way train ride to the underworld. Deep, Dark, Chuggy.. I didn't think such a dark set of that caliber was possible... Digweed ain't got nothing on the chinaman  In comparison to his sonic set, there was a lack of lightness to his set, which I found was fitting, considering how happy the tunes had been the whole night. Like Katy mentioned, half of his set had to be experienced with your eyes closed. The best way to describe his set is dream prog. He cursed us and put our minds to sleep, and then he took us for a nightmare ride. 4 am mindfuck tunes for the win. Track of the night that he played was

Santos - Desencadeada

Hearing this live, with the dark, trippy lights as the setting was too unbelievable to fathom. I could only imagine how much more epic his set could have been, if it had been longer, but it was the best and most spiritual 2 hour set I've ever had the pleasure to experience.. and that says a lot! It's going to take a whole lot to top this one off...

ya man. total drag. there was some good talent in there but hardly anyone heard it. the small room to the side of the main room even had more people.

I don't know too many people into disco who would want to trek across the concrete jungle in $40 cabs (or cars) to a huge soul-less corporate building to hear something meant for more intimate encounters.

don't take the hate personally, billy. jus explaining why no one showed up for the good music at your party.

you can come out to see me play at Bang the Party in April.

it's in Kensington at the Boat, so it won't cost you an arm and leg (or a designated driver) to get there.

Good luck throwing disco and real house events at the docks. You'll need it.

Well I think what the back room lacked in overall crowd numbers was certainly made up by the enthusiasm of those who were there to enjoy it. Had a chance to have a quick word with Butler before he went on and it didn't seem like he was fazed (sp?) by the crowd (or lack thereof), and let him know me and my friends were lookin forward to hearing some of his fave tracks. He seemed pretty genuine and straight up fun.

Same with Switch, he had a dopey old smile on his face
