Marc Romboy

Another great night by the kittens and influx crew! It is always a good time when the organizers of a party have put in that little bit extra to make the night memorable! Great vibe, venue, and people all round!

got there just after 12 - i think Jamie was just finishing up. Fabio played a near perfect opening for Romboy who really had the place jumping for a solid 3 hours! Great set - so great in fact that for all I know Romboy could have played one loooooong track all night long and most wouldn't have recognized the difference!... if you have been "there" you get my drift...

good seeing the old crew out even after all these years!

audion tonight? oh dear...

That was off the charts great.

When I stepped in the main room, my first thought was "holy shit, this iz serious party time!"

Romboy was incredible and enjoyed his set a lot more than his last visit even!

Kept the gf there a bit too long cause I was just locked into the groove. It had been a while since I saw Pallermo and I agree it was a great lead-in to Romboy and I think its the best I've ever heard fabio!

Other bonus: my back was tight as a motherfucker leading into the jam but all the dancin' cured me!

They really outdid themselves with all the balloons and the vibe was really solid but I thought Romboy was brutal. It was three hours of drawn out breakdowns and not nearly enough groove laid down. I was expecting some heavy pads true to the Systematic sound but Romboy was playing like a trance dj. Seriously, there were some breakdowns that lasted five minutes before a good bassline chugged along for a minute or two but then it was just back into an epic build. Still had fun with all the tomfoolery going on, but his set left a lot to be desired.

I really liked Romboy. Different styles over the course of his set, I thought the last 2 hrs were fantastic.... some very big-room sounding, atmospheric stuff over a driving bassline... dare I say almost proggy at times?? He's a fun dj to watch too, you could tell he was having a blast with the crowd and they were lovin' him right back.

Kudos to the BOK crew, this was an awesome night. Toronto really needs these kind of jams and I certainly appreciate all the hard work, time and effort that goes into making these happen. Happy anniversary!

i had a good time, apart from losing my bank card/id cash, like the dolt i am. also was annoyed at the balloon strings all over the place at face level.

Hmm... I DO get annoyed by the "breakdown overkill" approach but I didnt feel it on friday!

I think cause the breakdowns still had more than enough groovey dance food to keep me going even when the kick was held back...

Anyway, didnt feel that angle at all! Was pretty sublime all through to these ears.

But after all Spinsah, our diversity is our strength. So power to ya bro..

i had a great time, but honestly i thought marc romboy's set left something to be desired. i couldn't really get into it. to be fair, i had no idea what he sounded like, except that i really dislike the only track i've ever heard by him. LOL. loved fabio's set on the other hand. good times overall and it was nice to get out again!

Danke!!

Still recovering but, phew what a night! Firstly, THANK YOU to all the volunteers that helped transform that room within the span of one hour! I cannot believe that we were able to snap together that room like that. For those that don't know, there was a packed theatre performance booked previous to us which ended at 10:20pm that night. A team of 12 of us disassembled walls and hundreds of chairs, pulled up the floors, then installed the sound, decor, alien kitten heads, sound dampening, lighting, balloons, the bar, et al. And, in a whirlwind, it became that underground party that it was. Wow.

When we brought Marc Romboy into the room, his jaw dropped. He absolutely loved the party and loved the vibe you guys all gave him. He was extremely impressed with Toronto, and was ecstatic to play to you all. I trust he will have great things to say about the underground scene in Toronto back home in Germany, so yay!

And thanks to everyone for helping us celebrate our 2nd anniversary in style. It's nice to get some of the positive reinforcement many of you have sent our way on here and on Facebook. It's nice to know that the extra effort that we put into these parties goes noticed. And, it's good to hear that the only negative comments are fairly minor ones and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. I can live with the party being too dark, and having strings in the face, and also a breakdown of breakdowns but, I personally kinda disagree with the last one and didn't find that anything was overdone, but maybe I'm biased. ;-)

Actually, I happened to record the majority of the night including Marc Romboy's entire DJ set in 320kbps HDAudio. So please feel free to review the night to see yourselves.

Anyway, much love and respect to all of you, our loyal kittens. Thanks for being there for the past 2 years, and we hope to continue building our vision of the underground for many more years to come.

Love,

Justin, Hali, Mike, Fabio, Jamie, and the crew. xox

Well, those are the hallmarks of a prog set, and I suppose that is why I wasn't feeling it. I think atmospherics have their place in techno/house/tech house and I can certainly stand a bit of prog influence, but the approach to mixing and drawn out breakdowns that come with the territory really bores me on a dancefloor. And after a few years, I was still cringing to hear the original Body Jack vocal/mix - that is some Honda Civic music right there.

But it is a testament to the organizers that someone might not enjoy the headliner's set but still have had a good time at the party and appreciate all the hard work and courage it takes to book an expensive talent in a non-traditional club space. Taking those chances is commedable and the vision and execution present in these jams is something not to be taken for granted.

best re-review ever!

i think i remember getting into the second half of his set more than the first.

liked what the BOK were playing in the coatcheck room...a lil bit too bright for dancing, but hey it is the coatcheck lineup so you should have some light I suppose.

it was great seeing some old friends out and aboot.

dancing was manageable, not too overpacked like some parties in that space.

boo to some fuckhead burning me with a cigarette. next time, it's curtains!
