dj champion et ses g-strings. Club Soda , Montreal
I'll be honest, I'm being completely self serving in writing a review for this show as I really just want to post my shots, and help spread the word on this band/group.
After seeing dj Champion give a free show down at Yonge Dundas Square last Thursday I was made aware that the groups sophomore album was to hit store Sept 15th. As part of the release a party and performance was being held in Montreal. A few emails with the right combination of desperation, fan boy and past industry experience got me a press pass just 24 hours before the show. Craigslist I love you on so many levels. A quick ridesahre to Montreal was arranged for Tuesday morning, I got in to the city about 3 hours before show time. A short but enthusiastic line was waiting outside Club Soda, it moved quick. Getting into the venue was a bit strange as there were tables with food, booze, and more press than normal. It took about an hour then the fans arrived. it was party time. The band tore through the new album and had everyone acting like fools. I was a bit disappointed that that is all they played. In comparison to the show less that a week before where they played a selection of new and old track, focusing solely on new material left a bit desired. The new album is still strong, it just really helps to have some of their older epic tracks to pull it to the next level. It will be virtually impossible to replace Betty their former lead signer, perhaps it will just take time to adjust to the new lead man. Was an early show which left more time for cute frenchies on st Denis, then a painful red eye bus trip home that was made slightly more entertaining watching two 18 year old chick wig the fuck out on acid the entire time. show 8/10 experience 9/10 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I had never heard of this band until this thread, so I have to say thanks to Thom because I downloaded a bunch of their stuff and really dig it!

Converting fans 1 person at time. If you haven't tracked down their live album yet, do that next.
Then go buy yourself tickets to their shot at Mod Club on Nov 28th, it is only there and then you really get to experience Champion. Live. |

yes this is why i think it's great to post event reviews
![]() i must say though when i saw champion at the commodore in vancouver a few years ago it was a bit too high energy for me. lots of expectation to jump up and down all night. don't get me wrong that's fun and all but it just wasn't for me that night. |

Champion played Vancouver this last Saturday, it was the first stop of the Canadian tour for Resistance. Great show, though it kind of sucked that it was an early show, just tough to fully get into it when the band is on stage at 8:30/45 and has to finish by 10pm. I guess that would be my only major complaint.
I would have liked to hear more of the older material, like they managed at the Yonge Dundas show a couple months ago. I think I just still miss Betty. Pilou is really starting to find his stride as the new lead, kid has pipes. Sure the show was a bit early, a bit short, but I really don't know too many other bands that can get a crowd moving the way Champion does. 7/10 |

their headline outdoor set at the montreal Jazz Fest in the pouring rain with 150000 plus people still stands out as one of the greatest concerts I have ever been witness to!
