Pee-Fest @ Molson Ampitheater

I know some of you went. Post up slackers.
Unless you're still frozen to the lawn, which is understandable.

My brief brief thoughts cause I only caught 3 acts:

OLP- LOL. Did these guys ever not eat fat dicks? The only thing funnier was people who were LOVING it.

PSB - Awesome. Great energy, played a bunch of great hits along with some lesser known tunes. The dancers were so-so. I've seen better choreographed performances, but it was terrific to see these legends of dance perform. Would love to see them in Tdot again.

NIN - A sad farewell to one of my favorite musical acts of the past 2 decades. This was my 5th time seeing them, and production wise it was low key for them. The light show was dazzling compared to what OLP had for example, but by NIN standards it was decidely scaled back. They played a pile of great tunes, and the crowd ate the entire set up. I'm sad to see them go for now.

That's about all I can say for what I saw.
The place was 2/3 empty for OLP, and filled in okay for NIN/PSB, but there was still plenty of empty seats.
Hell, I didn't have tickets and got 200 level from the box office just walking up at 5pm.

I wanted to see the Pixies, but the rest of Saturday looked like shit.
A dude my GF knows saw them on Friday night at the freaking Casbah in Hamilton with less than 100 people in the room

from what I heard, there weren't too many more people than that at the v-fest gig!

I'm not sure why they had a headliner (NIN) that had just played that same venue < 2 months ago. I like NIN but not that much and i'm definitely not paying $65 for OLP and PSB.

I didn't know Raine was gay, but It is possible since I think his girlfriend is also gay.

Anyway, the only thing I found funnier than your post was the guys sitting behind me dissing the gayness of NIN and the people who like them, while talking about how they were dying to see coldplay...

Because the original venue was elsewhere and Trent decided to keep going for a bit after NINJA. I saw both shows and yesterday's was the topper, for sure.

an interview with Trent divulged that for his recent small club gigs, he is losing money on all of them.
saying yes to Vfest was a guaranteed fat paycheck, and he really likes playing Toronto.

I went on Saturday for something to do. I've been living at the Molson Amphitheatre this summer. I could go upstairs and make you a sandwich. After seeing, Pearl Jam, Rancid/Rise Against, Depeche Mode, NIN/Jane's Addiction, and Tool....this was the emptiest I've seen the venue when I got there at 3pm.

Sloan came up on stage and they were sloppy....not very tight....and just "ok". I knew their hits, but I'd have to say that the production of their songs in the studio is waaaaaaay superior to how they sounded on Sat.

It was sunny....so it didn't matter.

Franz Ferdinand was amazing. Not a fan at all.....but they sounded tight, professional, and put on a show. Great vibe as the venue started to gather more people coming through the gate.

The Pixies were what a TON of people were waiting for. I had seen the Pixes open for U2 years ago. I'm not a fan of them....but realize their importance as a revered band. By now the venue was quite busy. It was a love in for the Pixies. I thought it was just ok. They were loud and Kim Deal kept saying "thank you" after every song. Each song seemed very short. Some of my friends loved it.

I had to go spin at a party so I left before Ben Harper came on. It was starting to get chilly. When the Pixies were done lots of people left as well.

I couldn't be bothered to see NIN again after seeing them in Hamilton and for the NINJA tour.

Upper brass fucked V-fest up this year. Heads should roll for this one.

Do you have a problem with 16 year olds?

Doesn't matter if she's 16 or not. Reread her tribe name.

I saw The Pixies on Saturday. Pretty good set, definitely a mix of Surfa Rosa / Doolittle stuff. Unfortunately the venue was pretty dead. As in, I've never been to a show at the ampitheatre that sparsely attended. It was maybe 50% full when The Pixies played and the section I was sitting in the 300's was quite empty, so I was alone, kind of hard to get into the set when nobody is around. Frank Black can still scream as good as ever, he still looks like an orca. Sound mix was a bit off for the first 20 minutes. After the pixies was done, the entire place cleared out, I imagine there was less than 4,000 left for Ben Harper, my friend was there and said after Ben's band had an extended set there were probably less than a 1,000 people in the seats/floors by the time he was done. Virgin really over-estimated his draw as a headliner, definitely seemed like most in attendance were there for The Pixies. Luckily NIN was pretty busy, probably 75-80% full.

Pixies played: Bone Machine, U-Mass, Gigantic, Monkey Gone To Heaven, Gouge Away, Debaser, Hey, Here Comes Your Man, Tame, Wave of Mutilation, etc etc

=------

NIN

awesome show.

best I've ever seen NIN and about twice as good as at the NIN/JA show a few months back.

a proper end to the band playing their last large concert (well at least until 5-6 years down the line when Trent re-forms the band)

setlist:

1. "Somewhat Damaged"
2. "Terrible Lie"
3. "Discipline"
4. "March of the Pigs"
5. "Something I Can Never Have"
6. "Closer"
7. "Ruiner"
8. "Burn"
9. "Gave Up"
10. "La Mer"
11. "The Frail"
12. "The Wretched"
13. "Lights In The Sky"
14. "Eraser"
15. "1,000,000"
16. "Wish"
17. "Suck"
18. "The Day the World Went Away"
19. "Dead Souls"
20. "Hurt"
21. "The Hand That Feeds"
22. "Head Like A Hole"

awesome set. only 4 songs played from this decade. Eraser, Something I Can Never Have, Suck and Head Like a Hole were the highlights.

v-fest

It was a decent show. Came to see NIN but, also enjoyed Pet Shop Boys. After Trent mentioned he had a cold, it became very noticeable to me. I was expecting all the video screens again but, the lighting setup was still pretty decent. Really glad I decided not to hit the NIN/JA show.

went for pet shop boys and NIN.

ran late... was walking in right as pet shop boys were closing out with end girls... i was so heartbroken to have missed them

NIN was amazing! however... another big upset of the day, my date came down with something.. had to leave 45 minutes into their set. HUGE upset to end out the day.
well at least i caught part of it... and I also got to catch them at the koolhaus several years ago which was amazing. still not enough of a NIN fix for me though. Something always stopped me from seeing them live. hope they decide to tour again sooner than later! *crosses gingers*

I got there around 5pm on Saturday, stuck around for the Pixies (Loved them!), then left immediately after.
Sunday, got there around the same time, ate dinner and had a few drinks in the louder lounge during Franz and OLP (what a joke). Snuck my way good and close for the Pet Shop Boys, then left again. Never been into NIN. I always preferred Ministry. :P

Either way, PSB were highly entertaining. Loved the whole cube theme they had going on. Also loved the costume changes.

As others have mentioned, couldn't believe how sparse the crowd was this year. Let's hope it resumes next year at it's proper venue on the island!

Was OLP seriously considered a headliner?

Why not get Default next year and really kill the attendance?

They were not a headliner.

They played 3rd last on Sunday, hardly a headliner slot.

and the thread title change is idiotic, not sure what that is in reference to

This is the Wave Goodbye tour...last NIN tour, according to Trent.

LOL I give them five years before they reunite. Maybe three if Reznor doesn't get any soundtrack work.
