Justin Long @ Toika (+Quantic | Jason Hodges)

saturday night started off in a black hole of confusion by the waterfront, and then i headed over the Gladstone to hear Quantic at the Turning Point event. this was a fantastic party even though it wasn't really a DJ set, more like reggae selector except with all types of world music. i dont think i will ever hear some of those records again.

I made it to Justin Long for 2 am and by this point i was fired up for some action. I brought out my most special dance moves including the dancing banana who you might've seen in that emoticon.

the music was fantastic and everyone was having a great time, including justin. I could've sworn that when the music had to end, the guy seemed like he was ready to play for another 3 hours.

by coincidence his shirt with stripes blended into the backdrop behind the dj booth.

i'd also like to give a shout out to the Jason Hodges party a week prior at the Stone Lounge, which also featured a handful of solid beats. i know everyone is looking for the next venue but I think everyone is hanging in there just fine.

Turning Point parties, and Quantic or Miles Cleret guest sets in particular, are always like that: welcome to the vacation

Quantic was here? ok. perhaps my method of "your brain will internally email event notices to you" isn't working.

i guess they promote their parties low pro, especially since it was jammed in there.
i dont see a facebook group, just a person

anyways it wasn't like you missed a "quantic show". apparently he brought the orchestra a few years ago to harbourfront. i think if it was a different party maybe he DJs the re-edits and the quantic tracks, but turning point is all about old records.

great to see you there erika, even for just a short visit

it was a quantic show, in that any time he comes, it's a reflection of where he is musically at that time. I don't know that QSO will ever play again...

QSO is no longer QSO - it's Quantic and Combo Barbaro now. Sound's changed too...more afro than big band jazzy

Mr Tunes - are you just awaking from that great night of musical mayhem . I was wondering when you would arrive to deliver your review.

It was necessary for someone to open the thread about that night given my hand in helping set it up.

And for me it was truly a full day to remember. A moment that in the space of the House Party was well received. I got to spend the day with one of my favorite producers/DJ and what a great cat Justin Long is. A down to earth lad who is very passionate about the scene and is tirelessy promoting and travelling to ensure that it stays alive in all its forms.

That's what made the night extremely special. The local talent (Gleeson and the Loopity Goofs) and true fans came out to support from opening to close. And like Mr. Tunes said the energy Justin was giving he could have givin' it a few more hours; matter of fact when the big hand reached 3o'clock I was sure glad BOUNCE made the call to stretch the hour til 4.

By the end of the night and early day I came present to the amount of time and work that truly goes into promoting an event and the Bounce team really did a great job and those that came out to support was enough for Justin Long to say "I can't wait to do it again brother!"

i had to go out for dinner with extended family the next night. i was a complete zombie!

i just read on the twitter that the bounce house banner was lost that morning that thing was awesome! it was almost as if toika lounge was literally invaded that night. the staff seemed cool about us going on super late though. i thanked them.
