Wow! It's been a while since I heard proper house music. This is a really good mix. The Nick Holder track is fucking disgusting.

Im downloadin' it now B ill give it a listen when I wake up tomorrow and im drinkin' coffee.
BUT you almost had to duel it out for your name! My freind used to go by the same name- then changed it to JD Dyslexik before calling it quits with the whole "JD"ing thing. Ill post a review later. |

I've given it a few listens over the last couple of days. Overall it's mixed well. No real flaws or off bars and etc. The advice I would give after what I've heard has been said before. The tempo and selections are a bit off. The tracks you've picked work but they would work better in a different order. There is a good assortment of deep and more funky or chunky type tracks in the mix. It seems to be a deep theme with a jump up in chunk every few tracks and then right back down again. Drastic changes do work now and then but they have to be well timed and work off something significant in one of the two tracks. If you wanted to use all these tracks IMHO it would flow better if it started deep and slowly transitioned to the funkier tracks and stayed there, or started down, went up and then came back down again to close. I'm a big fan or mixes that do something but subtlety wins the race. The great DJs are 90% selection.
Everything seems to be in key or complimentary key so you have found sounds that work together. As a mix it is a good one but as a demo it would be better showcasing what you can do to a tempo over a period of time. I hope that gives you some constructive criticism. Hope to hear more from you again. Last edited by Jeremy Jive; 08-18-2005 at 12:10 PM. |

Hey there..
I wasn't sure if I should keep my thoughts to myself since I couldn't really get into it. You seem super cool and I always love your very funny and witty posts. I just wasn't diggin' the mix so much...not my kinda house. I am sure a lot of people will love it no doubt. It's just a difference in taste, that's all. I look forward to hearing a future mix that may be more my thing. Again I feel bad posting a less favorable review. But I think it's better then not being honest and then you will think that everyone loves it and it is perfect..then there would be no room for improvement. *Maxine*

So I gave it a listenin' too last night after burning a nice little joint. I liked it. It built rather nicely- no bad key changes or anything- and the mixing was pretty good. I have a small collection of vocal/deep house like this and you really need (at least imo) a large collection to effectively play a good set in this style. Im a big fan of genre bending- and I felt that the could have used a twist or two some where deep inside.
Good job B! |
