PANTyRAiD Mixtape 2009

At first I didn't like all the b-grade crunk acapellas they put over the tunes, but this mix has kind of grown on me. The last 5 minutes are especially brilliant. Be sure to check out the PANTyRAiD full length that just dropped on Marine Parade... I believe it's a bleep.com exclusive at the moment tho, so you'll have to go there to buy it.

Very enjoyable. Those crunk samples might be cheesey, but they do add extra aggressiveness to the music. A helpful quality when you're in the gym and looking for motivation.

Thanks for posting.

see... that's what i'm saying. it's really grown on me, and if you want it without the acapellas, you can just buy the album.

you should SEE the dancefloors blow up to this shit out in cali too, crunk acapellas and all. somehow it just works.

much MUCH respect to both ooah and marty party. PANTyRAiD is the SHIT!

Here's an interview from www.glitch.fm

PANTyRAiD, i.e. Josh Mayer aka Ooah of The Glitch Mob and Marty Folb aka Marty Party, have just released absolutely mesmerizing and wicked full-length album The Sauce on Marine Parade. I talked to Ooah about their music and plans for the future.

DK: Tell us a few words about the beginnings of PANTyRAiD project. How did you meet?

OOAH: Marty and I met through some mutual friends and quickly kindled a close brotherhood for each other through traveling, music events, and of course the love of well written songs. The very first time we got together to work on music it was an obvious sign that we were gonna come up with some interesting and creative ideas, our work flow and ear for the sounds we were creating were both in the same direction and style.

DK: It seems you have worked quite a while on this release. The ‘community’, me including, has been eagerly waiting for your album, especially after a constant flow of fantastic mixtapes from PANTyRaID in the recent months. Are you satisfied with the final outcome?

OOAH: Yeah, we are both extremely excited to get the record out there and are pumped on the sound and vibe of the whole thing, although I hardly feel like a song is completely finished before I turn it in, I guess we are always coming up with new ideas for the songs though. It also has been a long process to get the record finished because of my time being spent mostly on The Glitch Mob album and my dedication to the guys (edIT and Boreta). But me and Martys determination and love for Pantyraid will always be there no matter how long it takes to write an album.

DK: Your music is very rich in terms of instrumentation used. I believe this requires many hours spent in the studio on putting all the pieces of the complicated puzzle together. Did you have a lot of quarrels over the direction a given track should follow?

OOAH Ha, I answered this one already before I even got the question, but again the answer is simply no, we are pretty open and easy guys when it comes to writing, we are always down to just roll with where ever the other guy is headed with a sound or instrument, we know in the end it will all come together the way it's suppose to and will make sense.

DK: “The Sauce” is definitely more a “headcase” than ass-shaking stuff one would expect from, among others, a member of the mighty Glitch Mob. How do you compare PANTyRAiD experience to your involvement with more dance-floor oriented acts?

OOAH: I think there is no real comparison to The Glitch Mob nor any other music to me, it's just music we like make. Instrumental hip hop with various influences from many types of dance music from dubstep to trance to straight up top 40 club music. But to try and answer your question, The Glitch Mob and Pantyraid are both a world of their own and will always stand apart due to the nature of collaborating with different musicians and producers.

DK: I must say that I have been totally overwhelmed by the mesmerizing female vocals in Like That or To Fine To Do Time. Who’s that girl?

OOAH: Top secret

DK: Name a few of your favorite producers, young talents, undiscovered gems.

OOAH: Nosaj Thing, Mimosa, Free the Robots, Eprom, Loops Haunt, Lorn

DK: What type of hardware and software do you use?

OOAH: We both use Ableton Live, Cubase 5, couple random gadgets, field recorder, almost anything that'll make a sound honestly.

DK: Do you actually use hardware when playing live? I mean, nowadays you can play anything off the laptop, but …

OOAH: Nah, we're not trying to be the ultra elaborate live PA / electronic act, we simple rock 2 laptops, couple mpds and a lemur.

DK: How do you feel about the entire glitch hop / brap / crunk thing which finally gets the recognition it deserves? Even though this term may be a bit misleading, for me personally the producers associated with it belong to most creative musicians working on the electronic scene at the moment.

OOAH: Its all music to me, I tend to try and stay away from the labeling solely because we both make so many different styles of beats or songs. I'm not too fond of the name Glitch Hop but people are gonna label stuff no matter what, so I'm cool with that.

DK: Glitch as the music genre has certainly mutated for the last few years into more dancefloor-oriented, whompy sound, in particular when combined with hip-hop beats and acapellas. Do we live in a post-glitch world?

OOAH: Uuuuuh... ?

DK: What do you have coming up next? New releases, tour dates?

OOAH: I personally have The Glitch Mob record on my plate with a lot of tour for that in the near future, Marty is always making new MartyParty songs as well. We both have a solo track coming out on Muti Records compilation in a few months for Adam Ohana aka Ant-Ten-Nae from San Francisco. As for Pantyraid touring, we'll be on the road at some point for sure!

DK: Do you plan a tour in Europe? I’d be stoked to see you playing a gig in Poland!

OOAH: I sure hope so! I think its definitely in the cards for us, and Poland, yes hopefully soon!

DK: Thanks for the interview and keep up the good work.
