1980's Dj Mix Volume 1 - Mike Gleeson

Recently a friend of mine asked me to do a mix CD composed entirely of 80s tunes as a gift of sorts for an 80s music lover's birthday. And as i went through the process of compiling and mixing these songs together i found myself enjoying it so much that i thought maybe other people would enjoy the result.

Now if you're looking for subtlety, good taste, and sophistication, why the hell would you have even considered checking out this mix? And if you're looking for a mix full of shitty bootleg remixes of what were perfectly good original tunes on their own, well you're shit out of luck there too. No my friends, this mix is straight up 1980's pop music, albeit mixed dj stylee. That said, some of these tunes are actually really good, hell some are even "important" tunes in the history of music. But by and large, not really.

So anyway, grab this mix now and be the kid with the freshest, slamin'-est! beats on your block! (circa 25 years ago).

Oh, and i should mention - as this was originally done as an actual mixed CD, and in keeping with the 80's theme(the decade in which CDs first appeared!), if you'd like an actual mixed CD version of this, just gimme a hollah, i'd be happy to oblige!

you can email me at: mikegleeson909<nospam>@gmail.com

I doubt I'll put this mix up on my website, but if you're like to check out some house mixes i've done, and where i'm playing, blah blah blah, here's my website:

Good job Mike.

I'd like to see you try mix this set with records....I'll let you use mine if you wanna try? This way I can bring your CD & I won't have to lug my milk crates of 80's records at my next wedding gig.
We needed someone brave enough to release a mix of this era's early dance / pop music. You missed to include: Madonna - Holiday, Lionel Richie -All Night Long....and I'm sure some more for your 80's mix Part 2!

loaded onto my wifes IPOD this morning and she just called to say that the office crew is fully enjoying on their lunch hour.

Which leads me to one of the opening lines in RAW - where the uncle is the only one laughing at Eddie's joke - "THAT BOY's GOT Talent"

muchas gracias maestro

well i have about 90% of those tunes on vinyl, most of that on 45s actually.
one of the funnest djing gigs i've had the past few years was this jam in this basement place where it was no holds barred - led zepellin, nine inch nails, frank sinatra.. mixing all the stuff together, i had a blast!
its how i grew up, djing-wise, and i'm glad i did - it made me a much better mixer for it all.

but.. this mix is impossible with just records. for one, i've edited some of the tunes quite heavily, and in other cases i've used effects, time stretching, not exactly legit acapellas, filters, i even used an lfo over one mixing segment, ha ha, and then whatever else struck my fancy at the time. i thought about doing the mix just with records, but i knew it'd sound better overall if i just ableton'd it, and really there's not much point in doing the mix not in ableton if i'm just gonna make edits of things and whatever anyway.

but you're right! man i have a folder of about 200 tunes i had originally set aside for possible inclusion, and the hardest part was paring it down so that it'd actually fit on a cd. of course that meant leaving a lot of good tunes on the cutting floor. but that's for volume 2!

Dude its an 80s mix, you can't seriously think its forwards compatible with the technology of today?!

for real, i have no idea what happened there... try defrag? haven't heard any other issues with this yet..... but then again, the trojan worm i buried in with the Rick Roll part of the mix isn't supposed to activate until at least a week after dling. weird! science

So I fixed my sd card. Somehow after downloading this mix it had gotten covered in way too much hairspray?!!!??

This mix is sooooooo good. I would suggest anyone listening to this not read the tracklisting at all. I had basically forgotten most of the tracks and the order completely by the time I lstened to this and the element of surprise makes this pure gold.

Good work mikey

Great mix.

Reminds me of those classic DJ Spinbad 'Rock da Casbah' mixtapes (turntables and a 4track..)

This was excellent mix. there were some really clever transitions in there.

It got us through a really long drive across town in the snow storm today and kept us grooving instead of panicking.
