Hypercube Contest Winners announced

Unfortunately I did not win the Hypercube, nor did the Promise guys. Thanks to all who showed tremendous support and encouragement. I'm disappointed but not defeated.

They announced the winners last night at Circa nightclub downtown Toronto. By the looks of it, the voting had nothing to do with the winners. The only friend that won, was ranked 175 in the voting.

Basically Nissan announced at the event that they are launching a web-blogging site for hypercubers and it was pretty obvious that the winners were very strong graphic designers. I did most of the designing myself and I think that if I could have hired a designer I might have had a better chance, but I didn't really have any more money to put towards the campaign.

It also seemed like a couple of the winners were planted, I don't really think that this was the fairest contests I've ever been involved in.

I'm really surprised that the Promise Guys didn't win. Ranked # 8, they seemed destined to get one, but Nissan had more conservative plans.

The whole thing was a pretty big waste of time and I am very embarrassed for pushing this so hard. You won't see me buying a Nissan anytime soon.

yes, very disappointed the Promise guys didn't win. I know a couple of the people who did... Not sure if they deserved to win over Promise at any rate. Shame the voting had so little to do with the results.

Uh... it seemed pretty obvious from the outset that this was just a marketing/viral campaign to try and get other people to do Nissan's advertising for them.

I know a couple of the winners and they deserved it though their value-added marketing strategies which were not simply spamming their friends and 'friends' ... just because you don't know them doesn't make them 'plants'

But I like your moxy of continuing to spam us about the hypercube even though the competition is over. Keep fighting the good fight bra.

ppl were doing make-work projects as a viral marketing campaign for Nissan's new (ugly) compact SUV, the Hypercube. The herd were narrowed down to 500 or so and then the winners of 50 vehicles were announced last night at CiRCA.

wow seems like a roundabout way to sell some cars. viral marketing is still the rage, eh? I'm trying to stay away from viruses, personally...

I just got my new Nissan Versa yesterday it's a treat to ride compared to my old car (Buick LeSaber lol). Awesome deal too, which was 0% down and $260 a month. If you think about it the campaign worked because everybody was pushing the new brand for Nissan because a lot of people jumped on board to try to win the Hypercube.

This is a big ouch. I voted for the Promise guys. They need it. It sucks. 50 vehicles...500 entrants.

I was wondering who won. Where can I find out the list of winners?

I like the way that one guy who won one wondered (via Twitter) if anyone wouldd be willing to sponsor his new ride with advertising laminate.

Like, wasn't it free in the first place? I don't get it.

Rannie (the one talking about laminate advertising) is funny. He spent an inordinate amount of time on his Hypercube project page, shooting 300 panoramas with his iPhone all over the city and posting them along with lots of other information. Huge effort. But I think ultimately he neglected to factor into account the cost of owning a vehicle. Insurance, gas, etc. So now he's trying to come up with ways to finance the car.

i don't think you can really lash out at nissan, you sort of have to know the ropes before you embark on these things.

i'm used to it from remix contests where you'd push so hard to promote your entry and then find that the winners were basically pulled out of a hat because the judges get overwhelmed when it came time to decide. not saying this is the case here though.

voting is a good way to give people the chance to push their entry up higher in a microsite, but it would be really dangerous to offer the prize on that, with the possibility of people hacking the program apart.

i will hand it to them on this one, at least this viral campaign seemed like a lot of fun for those who entered it.

sorry you didnt win

I had hoped he was being facetious a la "Who's going to pay me to keep my new free car, guffaw guffaw."

The lame ass Nissan dealership near my house had the bus shelter removed because it was partially blocking their display window. "Sorry everyone, you can stand outside in the elements so people can see our fugly cars."

Too bad the douchebags at that marketing company have their heads stuck too far up their own asses to see how much bad-will this disastrous campaign has engendered on the brand they're trying to promote in the exact market that they're targeting.

really? i think that all the candidates emailing/facebooking their friend for a whole season was pretty good advertisement, and if people who lost want to go around crying about it they are only advertising the brand even more as it keeps the product on people's tongues.

i would like to find a viral media contest where everyone is pleased with the choice of winners. i'm also surprised if many contests even announce winners in the end.

that wiki page was pretty weak to see, it was even racist against french canada.

lol @ racist.

I can't imagine what I consider to be reputable car manufacturers hosting contests that appear as poorly run as this one.

Would Mercedes, BMW or even Toyota or Mazda put their names behind something like this? Doubtful.

If I were the person who had thought this brainiac contest up, and let whatever marketing company run it through as it did, I'd expect to lose my job.
